NHTSA has the authority to investigate and take corrective action if they believe there are reporting inconsistencies with ADS operator SGO reports. The SGO reporting requirements include crashes with minor damage, which is a lower reporting threshold (more minor crashes are included) than traditional police-reported and insurance crash databases. All crashes where any injury is alleged to have occurred or any airbag is deployed, which are the outcomes the safety impact data hub results focus on, must be reported as part of the SGO. Therefore, given the stringent reporting requirements and operational policies of Waymo’s fleet, it is highly unlikely that any crashes resulting in the outcomes reported on the data hub occurred and are not included.
